Elsewhere in the speech, discussing the qualities he prefers in a priest, he invoked his favorite Taylor Swift lyric—”familiarity breeds contempt” from Midnights‘ “Bejeweled”—but attributed the quote to his “teammate’s girlfriend.”

The pair’s relationship was only confirmed when the Grammy winner attended Travis’ NFL game in September.

“By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” she noted. “I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Since then, the couple has continued to support each other, with Travis traveling to Argentina in November for another Eras Tour stop and Taylor attending numerous Chiefs games.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” Taylor told TIME. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

The “Blank Space” singer has attended most of her boyfriend’s NFL games since they began dating last summer. Taylor has often been shown cheering on her boyfriend and the Chiefs from stadium suites. This time, she appeared with Keleigh Teller and Cara Delevingne.

At the Chiefs’ game against the Buffalo Bills last week, Taylor cheered on Travis along with Jason—who went viral when he took off his shirt and celebrated outside the suite with fans—plus his wife Kylie Kelce and the brothers’ parents.

At past games, the “Wildest Dreams” singer was joined inside the stadium suites by her dad Scott Swift, quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ wife Brittany Mahomes and more members of her celebrity squad—such as Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds, Sabrina Carpenter, Sophie Turner and Hugh Jackman.

Despite the increased media attention on Taylor and Travis’ relationship, the two are not letting the hype bother them.

“The only thing we’ve talked about is as long as we’re happy, we can’t listen to anything that’s outside noise,” Travis said at a press conference Jan. 26. “That’s all that matters.”

“It’s been cool to interact with [Taylor] because she’s top tier of her profession—and how she drives and she becomes that, it’s really cool to hear about and to see,” he said on a Dec. 25 episode of CBS Mornings. “He’s lucky enough to be with a great girl and a great woman.”

Of course, a few things have changed since Travis and Taylor went public with their relationship in October. For one, the NFL has definitely found a new football fan in the Grammy winner. After all, she has attended 11 games so far this season, often with Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, by her side.

“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Taylor gushed in her Time 2023 Person of the Year profile. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”

As for any criticism surrounding her game appearances, Taylor is too busy playing cheer captain to pay attention to the hate.

“I’m just there to support Travis,” she said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

As for how Travis’ inner circle feels about his love story? They think it’s nice to have a new friend.

“She’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom now and she’s part of the team,” Travis’ teammate Patrick said of Taylor on a Dec. 25 episode of CBS Mornings. “I’m so glad that she’s the person that she is and I think that’s why her and Travis match so well.”

Though he cheekily acknowledged, “There might have been a few Brads and Chads that were booing,” the rest of the stadium was struggling to calm down: “Everybody was f–king screaming their tail off for her.”

“We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for,” she told TIME in a Dec. 6 cover story, “because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple.”

“Everybody around me telling me: Don’t f–k this up! And me sitting here saying: Yeah—got it,” he told the outlet, before addressing the media attention. “That was the biggest thing to me: make sure I don’t say anything that would push Taylor away.”

And while he’s enjoying this new chapter with Swift, Kelce is also adjusting to a new sense of fame.

“Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them…I’ve never dealt with it,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”

“The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life,” he added. “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”

Kelce, who called Swift “hilarious” and a “genius” during his interview, noted that they share an important philosophy.

“Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” he said. “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”

As their relationship continues, Kelce is taking notes from Swift.

“I’ve never been a man of words,” he admitted. “Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f–king mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.”
