Canterbury recruit Dylan Napa admitted he has been through dark days since a sex tape of him went viral on social media.

The Bulldogs held a club media day on Wednesday, where Napa spoke out for the first time since the lewd videos were made public last month.

The videos were taken five years ago while Napa was playing at Sydney Roosters and the Cook Islands international faces a suspension for the start of the season.

“It wasn’t the ideal start, or any year when it comes to that,” Napa said.

“But I’m lucky to have a lot of support from my family and my Bulldogs family here.

“There have been some tough days, but it is what it is. There were some dark days.

“Coming to the Bulldogs, I wanted to come here and be a role model for the young members of the squad here. It obviously didn’t go to plan, but what can I do?

“I’m looking to put it all behind me and put all my energy into my football. It’s not the ideal situation but if it helps another one of the boys, or any guy playing professional sport, to not make the same mistake then that’s one positive.”

The NRL integrity unit are currently working on a final report of Napa’s case and NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg revealed earlier this week that Napa’s change of clubs won’t affect the outcome of the case.
